History of E.G. Gray Transportation Ltd.

E.G. Gray Transportation Ltd., of Peterborough, ON, a privately owned for hire carrier that operates in Canada & the U.S., was established in 1987 by Eric Gregory Gray. Operations began with one personally owned truck, and a couple of friends who went to work for Mr. Gray as owner-operators.

In the beginning, the company worked almost exclusively for AVP International, based out of Newcastle, Ontario. E.G. Gray's reputation grew beyond the Newcastle / Peterborough corridor and within three years the company had grown to a fleet numbering more than 10 – a mix of company-owned, and owner-operated vehicles.

Dave Pogue's arrival as General Manager in 1994 changed the focus of the company, which began to evolve from predominantly truckload for-hire transportation, to a mix of truckload and less than truckload (LTL) shipments.

By the time of the company's 10th anniversary in 1997, E.G. Gray had grown to a fleet of 32 power units and 60 trailers. Now in its 23rd year, the company boasts a fleet of over 50 power units & 120 trailers which include dry, refrigerated, and flat & roll-tites

With the backing of its' three largest clients - Quaker Oats of Canada Ltd., Binney and Smith (Crayola) Canada, and Avpex International - E.G. Gray Transportation Ltd. was poised to meet the New Millennium with a skilled and dedicated staff of 70 and a focus on customer service.

Dave Pogue went on to purchase the company from the original owner in December of 2000. This positioned the company for continued growth and success in the International freight market. 2000 to 2007 saw strong sales and good growth. E.G. Gray moved to a new location in June of 2006. The new facility enabled the company to offer more services to our customers ie. long & short term storage, customer warehousing solutions, and devaning of  sea containers. These services help secure E.G. Gray's position as a transportation leader in the Kawartha's.

2007 marked the 20th anniversary for E.G. Gray, which enjoys continued success. 2009 has also proven to be the most volatile year for the trucking industry in recent memory, with huge challenges on the horizon.

E.G. Gray Transportation Ltd., backed by its' loyal clientele, is ready to meet those challenges head on.

And we invite you to be a part of it.
